Whats up with local shops

I understand the fact that local guys have a business to run or what not, but all this about how my enclosure was built wrong???? Let me tell u, its as solid as a rock. Everything done properly. I mean come on, the guy told me it was suppose to make noise when the sub is playing because it "makes it louder". WTF??? So why all the competitors on the national level who be breaking records or what not have a very very solid enclosure. and not one thats made out of pure 3/4 mdf with no bracing?

And a por thats 2"H x 18.5"L is only 37sq inches of port for TWO DP 15s? The more the guy talked the more i wondered how in the hell he has a business. And to think, guys actually believe is is correct. He says he has been doing it for 10-11 years? Thats sad out of 10-11 years he has learned absolutly nothing but how to carpet a box (which is the only reason i called him up)

I got one better for you. I work for a local shop in Georgia where our main brand in Pioneer Premier. (people in this town only want cheap shit and won't spend any real money) I sold a guy 3 TS-W2000SPL woofers. I ask him what amp he is going to run them off of but never get an answer. A few weeks later he comes back to the store saying that all 3 woofers had blown. I knew something wasn't right with this and it had to be something in the installation. Sure enough was the biggest mess of an install i had ever seen. The guy who put it in didn't build the box near big enough (all of this was done in a 92 acura legend). It was barely big enough for one speaker let alone 3. Not to mention that fact that he ran a second batery that needed 1/0 gauge wire with 4 awg, used 18 awg speaker wire and was over driving them by about 1000 watts. I knew they guy who built the box and did the install because many things he put in peoples cars came to me for repair. So i called him up and told him that the box was way to small and it needed to be rebuilt or he would blow 3 more woofers up (he claimed he built it to pioneers specs....Bullshit) . Anyway things got said and he was pissed off to the point where he came down to the store to kick my ***. When it was all said and done Pioneer forced us to warrenty the speakers even though they were abused not defective. 2 days later the customer came back saying he blew the woofers again. This time we didn't warrenty them and he would have to take it up with the installer. Needless to say he called me a day later to apologize.

some swap shop that carries every off brand you can think of and whos top line of equpiment toldme thier audiobahn flame q was insane, and that my xxx15 which is an "off brand" according to the 18 year old sales jit wouldnt hit nearly as low as this bahn. sald i was in the mists of box contruction and couldnt shut him up..........however the shop did close down a lil less than a year later...good ridence....

lol last night while playing poker at a friend of a friends place, i mention im into car audio, one guy says " i have some sick shit for sale". "oh really" i reply. " i have a 1200w audiobahn amp, the flame series"......i chuckled and said thanks anyhow, im happy with my kx 2500.1.

My local shop is very understanding. Like the other guy said, they never talk down of the newer brands if they havent heard of them. But they sell what makes them the most money, ie. what gets advertised in audio magazines and what not. And they are always willing to special order if you actually know what you want.

At one of the local shows last year, a couple people from the local shop were snickering about Nick Lemons being some "sponsored punk", because he had an SI T-shirt on...without knowing who he was //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

They sure weren't laughing after they got a demo...

x2 on the soundstorm

i had one, one time. i think it was rated at 1600max. lol that was the weakest (POS) i ever seen. probably didnt do 300rms(and if it did, it wasnt clean) would ever heat in about 20min. all it was powering was 2 audiobahn 12's 400rms each, runing only at 4ohm:crap:

so i came across a noob and i traded my soundstorm amp, for his poweracoustic 620max amp plus 75dollars.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

all was well then tho

UPDATE

So the other day i go back into his shop. It was him and a few other people just standing around talking. He asked if i got everything installed and i responded yeah. (nothing overly excited, and when i pulled up, i didnt have my system cranked) So he asked if it was loud. I was like, well its not the loudest thing in the world but its aight. He then bust out laughing. Then starts telling the people in his shop how i built a huge ported box for some un name brand 15s and it doesnt hit. I stopped him, i was like, oh it hits, its just not THE LOUDEST THING IN THE WORLD. I was about to leave and he was like hold up, i want to check it out. So we go outside, i put in one of the songs that hits like a mofo and cranked it up. Man that had to be the funniest thing in the world, he QUICKLY jumped out of my truck and was like Kenny u lied to me. I was like, i didnt lie. I told you it wasnt the loudest thing in the world. He was truly amazed. He told me it was some guy in town with a truck just like man who has either 6 or 8 15s and his system doesnt hit like mine. Man i wish i had a vid of that.

But on a better note, hopefully i can get a vid of the DPs flexing my truck. Its done made a crack on my roof and all my windows flex like crazy.

Haha. This is so true. I was sitting (an 8 hour wait) in a shop. Some guy had a DD9512 with a good sized box with i think a z1 or something pushing it. He was there for some custom door panel work. Well they didnt mess with his audio system. But i remember him coming in and they asked him what company his amp and sub were from and he said DD. They said they never heard of it and he should of bought a RF T1 instead.
So the car owner walks to his car and just lets it rip. After that, the shop was asking again who DD was but with amazed looks in their faces.
Don`t you love it when you show them that they don`t know everything...just love it when you shut their mouths pricless!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Gotta remember that the local guys are trying to make a living, so they WILL look down on anything they didn't sell you. I just try to be polite and don't mention what I have unless they ask.
I picked up a SVR battery a few weeks ago at a local place and the guy was telling me how JL had 11 patents and made the best sub in the world, blah blah. That I needed to use a spectrum analyzer to tune my front stage, etc... Of course he sold JL subs and offered the SA tuning as a service. I wouldn't have played it for him if he asked, NO win situation.
The spectum analizing thing is pretty accurate if you want to set up your car's EQ for a relatively flat frequency response, because few can get it close by ear. Paying for a couple hours with the guys at the shop I frequent and an RTA did wonders for my system.

I also agree, the smaller the shop, the more shit they talk. I went into a local shop to buy a HU harness and the guy looked at me like I was from another planet when I said all my speakers were Dls. Then he heard my car (an SQ daily driver install) and had a nice tall glass of shut the fvck up. Sorry for him he hadn't heard of Dls, they aren't exactly new.

i like my local shop.. they're not know it all's, they'll sit and bullshit w/ ya even if you dont have a fist full of cash at the time. plus they're about to start selling RE and US Amps. i just hope they aint the type of shop that installs your equip. then steals it all a week later.

Well this guy actually sells used rims and he makes speaker boxes. He is real cool to sit and talk with or what not. Its just funny how he has been building for 11-12 years and knows little about enclosures.

BTW, my box is really sturdy. I just turned up my system full tilt. sat a quarter on my box and it barely moved. Did the same test with my friend box he bought from dude and the quarter was bouncing around acting crazy. That enclosure housed some OLD JL 10s. LET ME STRESS...OLD!! The subs are literally falling apart but his newly built box was flexin like that? Anyways. hope to get some vids up this weekend. If the camcorder my aunt has comes through.

I agree with you, but this guy was cramming it down my throat like NO car should even have the speakers played unless an RTA has been used to EQ everything.

For a DD with just some loud/clean tunes then tuning by ear is fine for me...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
