whats the point of shimmys?

what the point of using a shimmy for reconing? Whats the problem with just dropping the voice coils in the magnet/motor and glueing?

the coil won't be properly centered in the gap so you won't get the correct T/S parameters. Also if it's too far off you can actually damage the woofer if it's very far out of alignment.

More like the coil will be missaligned and rub the pole or topplate...

Why shim a door when you hang it ?
