Whats the difference between an sql sub and a spl sub?

SQL - Sound Quality Level
SPL - Sound Pressure Level

Now you differentiate between the two.
SMH.

SQL = Sound Quality League

SPL = Sound Pressure Leage

People use these terms too loosely & don't know what they mean. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

I hate all of these terms, but SQL has to go. SQL is a database, SQ doesn't directly infer anything, and at least SPL makes some semblance of sense.

people on here a while back used "SQL" to refer to "Sound Quality Loud".
THey wanted a sub that could get loud, while still sounding good.
thats exactly what my friends and I mean when we say it. a few of my friends have held DB world records and are well kown installers in the south east.

I think a better question would be: Can you tell the difference between these types of subs by just looking at their stats? If so, which particular stats should you be looking for to determine this?

if i were to say i would say that a sql sub wasn't nearly as peaky over a given freq range (say 40-80 Hz but still gets loud. where as a spl sub will get peaky on the rta-spl meter at 1 or a few frequencies

Loudness is subjective. What some consider to be loud may not not be loud to others.

If SQL is to become a defacto term, what volume classifies as being loud?
