Downfiring enclosures can severely hurt the subwoofer. Mounting the subwoofer on the bottom of the box is merely asking for trouble, any movement of the surround and you are putting a tremendous strain on the suspension system.

Elephants use low frequency to communicate with each other from distance, they use 15Hz~35Hz and can be as loud as 117dB. You could also park your car next to the ocean and communicate with whales but they probably can't hear you... for example blue whales make "calls" by producing 10Hz~40Hz bass ranging from 155dB to 188dB, so they beat even the world SPL champions by quite a lot.
