squeak, I understand your stance but personal preference has value, even if it isn't measureable.
2 identical apartments one looks at the buildin next to it, the other looks out over the city at the ocean. The better view is worth $, even though functionally they are the same.
He puts value on THD and Damp. therefore it has value, is reasonable and necessary.
No. You're example would be more applicable to choosing one amplifier over another due to aesthetics.....which while spending an excessive amount of money on an amplifier due simply to aesthetics still isn't entirely sensible, it's at least
slightly understandable. Aesthetics play a role in my own amplifier decisions, I'll admit. Though I'm not spending or even considering spending ridiculous amounts of money, if two amps are perfectly suitable quality and features wise and within my budget......I'll choose the better looking of the two.
But to limit your amplifier search based on arbitrary values that cause absolutely no audible difference is a bit on the idiotic side and severely limiting the search to an amplifier that would otherwise perfectly suit his needs.
So, assuming you are the snobby audiophile type.....by his ridiculous standards Brax is off the list since it's DF is a lowly >400, the Audison Thesis is off the list since it's THD is merely .05%, Genesis is off the list since THD @ rated power is .1%, Arc SE series is off the list since the rated power is @ .03%, Tru Tech Copper series is off the list since it's THD is .05 - .1%. These are some of the top of the line amplifiers, and they are precluded from his search because he chose silly, arbitrary values to limit himself with. Legendary designers like Zed would be off the list since his amps were rated @ .08% THD and a much lower DF than his requirements.
I mean
seriously, is even the snobbiest of audiophiles going to hear a difference between .01% and .05% or .1%, with music in a moving vehicle? Is the snobby audiophile going to hear a difference between a DF of 1000 and a DF of 800 with music in a moving vehicle? [Or even if sitting still, if he plans to compete] Is his speakers distortion and self-damping at listening levels in a moving vehicle going to completely dwarf both of these factors at the limits with which he's contained himself?
This isn't even a "all amps sound the same" argument. It's nonsensical to place such arbitrary and unnecessary limitations on himself. I'm quite certain that if he relaxed his requirements even slightly, he'd open himself up to a much wider range of snobby audiophile type amplifiers that would be perfectly suitable to him.
Believe it or not, I'm trying to help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
