What's better - 2 ohm load or 8 ohm load?

I think he meant to say 2 ohms.

 
There aren't really any disadvantages to raising impedance.
Actually, keeping motor strength(bl) high is a big advantage. If you look at the bl a company gives you for their dual voice coil subs, it will 99% of the time be the strength of the motor when the coils are wired in series, to a higher ohm load. Wire it in parallel and you'll see roughly half that. I think Cadence is the only company I have seen that give the specs for both series and parallel wiring, when they did it with their big Daytona subs.
