What's a reasonable cost for a 8-9c sealed box?

Ok. I am having a local install shop build me a new box for my 18. From the looks of it, it'll be around 8 cubes in size.

One shop charges $150, but i will never go there, ever.

Another charges $200.

Also, steve meade will charge $250+shipping for a box for 1 18 with bracing.

This local install shop wanted $300 for a basic ported box, i'm going to call tomorrow but the thing is im not paying friggin' 300+ for a **** wooden box.

Do custom ported boxes normally cost more than sealed? And i know if i mention bracing he'll be like uhhh thats another $50 or something. I want to negotiate with them since i give ALL my car business to them, and im sure if i brought a reasonable offer to the table with comparisons, he would work with me.

So what i want: a sealed box, around 8 cubes for 1 18" sub with some bracing inside.

what is a reasonable price?

don't have the time, unfortunately.

i just don't want to get ripped a new ahole.

one shop charges 150, another 200, another 300...

i want to negotiate with him on labor and parts cost, so for that kind of box, whats fair?

and its for 1 2007 18" RE XXX

Is the box going to be finished with carpet? Those prices are pretty reasonable IMO.

And yes, generally a ported enclosure with the same NET volume as a sealed enclosure will cost more, because there is more material involved.

Wow that 150 is reallyyyyyyy good....yeh its only 60-70 bucks for materials, but labor to....and not getting a mess with saw dust or glue on ur fingers

$150 is wellllll worth it...want it ported, throw some aero ports in it

LOL, thats not exactly the best way to do that....

thats why you dont use caulk or liquid nails to hold a box together.
wood glue man.

and that is a hellova price on the box, i change 150 for a 4 cube ported box
... i need to charge more.

I haven't had a problem using it, and until I do, maybe then I'll use wood glue.
You should use wood glue SO you won't have problems. why wait until you have a problem?

they call it wood glue for a reason. You probably won't ever run into problems, but using wood glue to give your box more strength on the bonded joints.

Those prices are pretty decent. I sure hope they add a lot of bracing because I'm sure those panels will be quite larger. The larger the pieces, the more they can flex.

its 8 cubes because its been talked about in a previous thread, for my application and the sound i want (low, low, low, low, low and deep) an 8 cube sealed is what ive been told would be better than a ported tuned super low. plus the sealed would hit the notes better. i dont care to get insanely loud.
