Whats a good Receiver

Hey guys, looking for a receiver that will do a better job then what i have..

I have a fairly lower modeled Kenwood 5chan receiver, i think its about 3 or so years old. i think 100x5, not sure, maybe its 90x5...

My friend got a new one all digital or something? and it sounds amazing..

Wondering what else i could pick up that would sound better, I gather a good receiver would be like a good HU in a car?

I have a 5.1 system at home. 2 bookshelf Athena's. the center, 2 rear Enery's, and the 8" athena powered sub. Now this is ALL in my little bedroom, sounds great but was thinking of a new receiver.

I have a Panny Xr-50 and its one of the all digital ones. Couldn't be happier with a receiver for 200 bucks.
