Doing an informative speech for school on car stereo, titled "cheap thump."

I have most of it written up, but need some "interviews" and outside sources for my speech. None of which can be internet sources. Im using a PPI manual for wiring tips, for example, and i want to get some experiential knoledge from you guys.

I guess what I'm asking is:

1. What in your opinion is the most important thing you have to have to do before you start building a cheap sub setup?

2. Where do you go for cheap gear that works well?

3. Do you try to put it in the first time yourself or let a professional handle it?

Any other stuff you might want to add would be awesome.

1. Knowledge. Don't just go out and buy stuff because it looks cool or because someone tells you it's cool. Make sure you read over the specs and understand what they mean.

2. Ebay, Internet, Best Buy (maybe)

3. If you know what you are doing or have read up on what to do then go for it otherwise let someone who knows what they are doing install it.

I hope this helps you out. Oh and add DO NOT RUSH or IMPULSE BUY. Take your time and if you have to finish up the next day then get some rest and get a fresh start. There is nothing worse then buying stuff because someone tells you it's good only to find out the guy down the street spent less and sounds better.

kay...

1. The Most important thing to do before you start building a budget system, is to KNOW YOUR BUDGET. Take into consideration the type of music you listen to, what you want out of a system.

2. Go to internet sites such as woofersetc.com or something like that

3. IMO try to do it yourself. Gain the knowledge from asking knowledgable pple, and put the knowledge to practical. However if you are uncomfortable handling audio equipment, take it to a dealer.

ya....

1. Research. Not only on paper, but you must listen to as many drivers in your price range as possible. You can compare specs on paper all day long, and driver A that costs $150 may look better on paper than driver B which costs a mere $80 ... but when you go listen to both of them in proper enclosures with adequate power, driver B blows driver A away in your opinion, based on your ears. You just saved yourself $70.

2. Depends how cheap. Used equipment is great if you can find good deals from reputable sellers. You'll notice a lot of competitor equipment going on sale here shortly ... great way to pick up slighty used drivers (couple burps on them), or lots of power for a fair price. Many internet sites (TheZeb, CarDomain, OnlineCarStereo, etc + eBay) all offer great deals.

3. I like to do it myself so I know how everything is mounted and set-up. If you've got the extra cash and don't trust yourself 100% with the $1000 worth of equipment you just bought ... and are installing into some $25K + car or whatever, go ahead and get it installed by a pro. Know the installer, see his/her past work, etc.

1. Research, lots and lots of research.

2. Bought from E-bay a few times but more often than not, I got screwed on audio gear. I usually go to the local car audio shop.

3. Im a DIY'er so I say do it yourself and learn what you can along the way. Start basic and work your way up.

Ebay, you can find good quality items new and cheap.

You should have learned in math class the formulas you need to come up with enclosures with the right amount of airspace(volume ft^3). Build your own box and save$$$.
