Whats a good MCD rating for led's?

for white, i'd say 10k or higher. I've seen 13,000, 15,000. They are seriously bright little buggers. I think they make ones as bright as 25,000, maybe higher.

Depends -- what are you wanting to do with them? I've used 15,000mcd ones and they lit up the ground from about 4-5 feet up well enough to see color clearly I mounted them as landing lights on an RC plane. Only 2 of them were enough to see the ground in pitch black from 40 feet or so away from the landing aircraft. 27k would be seriously bright in the dark

I think it'd be too bright, yeah. Those 15,000 ones were blindingly bright. If i were you, i'd buy 10 of each. They're probably not gonna cost more than 30cents each or so.
