What would sound best?

I really want a system that hits really hard when you listen to rap and just sounds good when u turn it sown a little and listen to rock. I've also just started thinking it would be cooler to have like 4 r's instaed of 2 x's, just seems like more, the people that really dont know that much will think its cooler. I have an x but it just sounds good at low bass it barely picks up any higher bass, and my l5 just sounds weird wen it hits certain tones. I was just thinkin has anyone hooked up like 4 subs with two amps and put like the remote wire for one of the amps on a toggle switch to turn it off and on. And if you do this would you have to make like one big box but seperate them, so it's like two boxes. I'm just spitballing here. any thoughts?

The enclosure easily affects frequency response as much, or more, than the brand/model of sub chosen, which is basically what you are asking. Upper bass is generally known as midbass, which your subs really should not produce.

yea iv'e heard that i mean my x the lower the bass the harder it hits where every other sub hits about the same. I think it's the box I wanna try it in another box. But I want more power then one x so would 2 x's be better or 4 r's, like to be able to turn half the system off if possible. I want something that sounds good with any kind of music because I like it all but I also want something that can rattle ur brains a little wen u turn it up.

You shouldnt want to turn half the system off. If you want to attenuate subwoofer output, simply lowering output from all the available cone area would be more beneficial. Most subs display more distortion as cone excursion increases, so having 4 running at less excursion would mean less distortion than 2 running at more excursion, all other factors being equal. Perhaps a bass knob setup is in your future. Or, for a more complex setup, a signal processor with variable presets that allows you to switch parameters on the fly.
