What would have more output?

I have a single cab s10 im looking to put a system in.

I have 1.4~ cubes available for a box, with ~5.5" mounting depth.

Should I do 4 RE 8's ported on 250wrms each.

OR

2 Kicker CVT 12" sealed.

Will the 8's reproduce low frequency better than the kickers?

this is a toss up, ported and more cone area will probably be best

i had a 93' ranger std cab with 3 re 8"s ported in it in 1 cube tuned to 35 Hz hooked to an infinity 611a (657 watts) and my shix bumped for 8"s...if done right, you will not dissapointed for sure.

approx 114 in^2 on the 8's, approx 170 in^2 on the 12s and in theory you pick up 3dB for porting, and 3dbs for doubling cone area so lets do the math

170 is 50% larger than 114 so figure approx a 1.5dB increase in output

porting is porting... 3dB increase in output

so IN THEORY, the ported 8's should be approx 1.5dB louder... negligable

also have to take into account driver sensitivity and power in this case the cvt's are more sensitive

the cvts are rated at 87.1dB so 2 = 90.1 dB

re 8s are rated at 81.2dB so 4 = 87.2 + 3dB for porting = 90.2dB

so in THEORY (can't emphasize this enough as i haven't tested either driver) the 8's will have a slight advantage if you choose to run the 8's at 250 each and the 12s at 400 each

however any way you look at it... its pretty **** close, id go ported 8's for a lower F3

Well, The way I see it you should buy both, have boxes made for both, test them, let us know how it went, then sell what you chose not to use.

it will come down to the install.... the re will sound better than any kicker, and get louder if the install is done rite.... id pick the 8's...

i dunno how you got ur numbers, but 4 8s have 200 square inches of cone area and 2 12s have 226, i would do the 4 8s ported
