What would happen if...

nope, the ported will give you depth, while the sealed gives you the punchy upper frequencies. First hand experience with this one. Innovative Audio Utah, did two sealed 10 L7's and a ported L7 12" in Rich Richards SQ truck.

This is a good "blanket statement" because in most cases it is correct, although not all.

I have seen/heard many setups over the years that have varied between size of the drivers and box types to product great SQ. It can be done if done right, just not for the novice.

its most surtainly posible. i have seen it done plenty of times, have done it my self. not an extreamly difficult task. you just have to take into consideration a couple of factors that would cause issues.

Make sure the sealed box has a high pass crossover on it and the ported one has a low pass crossover on it. Or just build a proper ported enclosure and call it good. In the upper bass range a ported enclosure that is designed for flat response should behave almost exactly like the same driver in a sealed box.
