Newbie's first post..be gentle 
Am getting a 95 mercedes sl320 in a few weeks from inlaws and the stereo needs tlc. Its a factory Bose system.
Hu does not play radio or cassette but cd changer works. At least one speaker is crackling and popping.
I wanna replace whole system but because this will not be a frequent driver, dont want to put a $1000 into it.
So will be doing install myself and this is what Im thinking: I have a NIB Kenwood hd458 hu, maybe mb quart plv216 comps in drs, replace bose amp with a 100-150 rms per ch amp and for a little bass, 8"kicker hideaway sub.
Im 56 and will listen mostly to 70's rock and country, bluegrass and motown...not interested in big loud boom-boom...just clean clear accurate sound.
My questions are am I going to get there with this set-up and will the depth of this hu fit ok, its 6.75" and the existing single din is either a Becker or Alpine. Also, not sure how much depth I have for dr speakers may be as little as 1.5" from what Ive been able to find online. If the MB Qts wont fit...any suggestions??
