What way should the subs point?

Your asking us, which way sounds better? How can we tell which way sounds better if we are not there to hear it in person? Use your own judgement.

I aim my sub towards me. Louder to me.

It's entirely dependent on how much air space there is in your trunk, the distance of your car, etc. If you point it back, what you're basically doing is making the sound waves travel farther before reaching your ear. This means you may need to alter time alignment, and the resonance frequency of your car will be lower so you may get lower bass.

Sub frequencies are omnidirectional. They don't "travel farther" because of how the box is pointed. What you get by pointing them into a confined space like that is an additional loading effect that can enhance the ouptut. Every car and install is different. It's easy enough for you to try both, so do it. Figure out which you like and stick with it.

That is a HUGE box for a pair of W1s, and if you're looking for hte most output, you bought the wrong subs. JLs, W1s especially, are not high output subs.

Yes the box does look big but I went off of JLs design on the website so its 1.75 per sub. And the subs are not staying. Im going to upgrade to w3 or maybe w6. But if I get the w6 I need a new amp. I have a the JL xd600/1 and would have to go get the slash for the w6 so thats a big step up. This is the 3rd box but the 1st ported. I wanted to make a triangular box but I had a hard time working in the port because the port is a L shape.

Ya I think im going to face them back. Its hard to tell what hits harder so Im going to point them back so you cant see them like you said. Now I need to figure out how to make the box with the port facing up. Anyone ever use this site Speaker Enclosure Volume Calculator
