Well, are we talking about a separate alternator just for the stereo, or one alt for the whole vehicle?

Then I wouldn't go past 14.8-14.9v or so.

Any more and you'll run the risk of burning up your cars electrical system.

A lot.

IA, sundown, atomic, american bass. Pretty much every zenon based amp out there.

Also, some other amps can be modified to run on 16v.
