hi, i just bought a used 2000 nissan sentra se and the speakers that came with it are really bad, plus one of them is blown out. i want to get new speakers right away but i have no idea of what kind to get. i pretty much know nothing about car speakers. also, i was thinking of getting a subwoofer too, but as i don't have that much money right now i might get it a while later and just get the speakers for now.

i want to get 4 speakers. the guy at best buy told me the size i need is 6 1/2. i'm hoping to spend under 200-250 dollars, including installation, but the cheaper the better, as long as sound quality is good. i like to listen to loud music with lots of bass, like trance and metal, so i think i'll need pretty good speakers.

what kind do you guys recommend? and should i get them professionally installed or have a friend do it for cheaper? i'm not sure how good they are at installing speakers though... any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

That should be a nice starter setup for you. You DO need to get a sub and sub amp if you listen to bass-heavy music. You'll also want to get an aftermarket HU soon. But those 3 items should get you started.
Cool, thanks! So I need to get an amp for the speakers too? Or do I just need one for the sub? Also, what is an HU?

I might be able to install them but I have no idea how. My dad knows more about cars than I do so maybe he could help me out.

You need an amp for the somponents for sure, and the rear fill speakers would benefit from an amp too. An HU is a Head Unit. CD Player. You'll want one with three pre-outs (Front, Rear, Sub).

If that's more money than you want to spend right now, I suggest just getting a head unit and 2 sets of the coaxials, and powering those with the HU. Save the components and other stuff for when you want to spend more money.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I only have the radio system that came with the car so would I need to buy a new one of those to in order to be able to hook up a sub?
Here is the head unit I just got.

if you wanted to that and just get speakers that were not component speakers that could work.

I dont have an amp to power my speakers yet and they sound pretty good. (still my stock speakers too, getting some new ones in the mail hopefully today)

Which ones are the coaxials? And what are component speakers?
The cheaper ones I posted are the coaxials. Component speakers have a separate mid and tweeter, along with a separate crossover unit to divide the frequencies. They generally sound much better than their coaxial counterparts (when properly installed).

If you JUST want coaxials, look at these: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4258_Pioneer+TS-D161R.html

Those have recieved VERY nice reviews by a lot of people around here.

And don't skimp on the HU. There are nice ones in the classifieds section all the time. Just look around and ask questions. We'll learn ya;)

so right now i just want to get speakers so i can listen to music at somewhat good quality because the speakers i have right now really ****. if i got the coaxial speakers now, would i have to get rid of them to replace them with the comp ones later, or could i still use them? in other words, would it be a waste of money to get them if i'm planning on getting better ones later anyway?

also, would i need to get a new hu in order to hook up the speakers i'm getting now or could i wait on that too? i want good sound for now but i'm definitely planning on upgrading in a few months or later when i have more money, so i want the cheapest solution, but preferably one that won't waste money in the future. what do you recommend? to get an idea of the sound quality i want, i used to have a 2004 honda civic ex, and the speakers that came with it were good enough. thanks!

I say get some good front speakers and a good head unit for now.
do i need the head unit for sound quality? or do i need it to hook up the speakers? i would rather just use my old one for now if i could because it has all the features i need, technology wise, as long as the new speakers would work well with it.

You could use your old one with it if you wanted to I guess

If you want to start building a system though I say you go with those two things first
