What to do with $1,500

haha you can do quite a bit with 1,500!!

think 2 brahmas.....a jbl amp..... some new components...and you'll have a bumpin system!

Nice sound with a little uumph, I like your style. $1,500 is only a "meager" budget if your paying retail. On the internet you can ROCK for that much money.

HU

__Pioneer, Kenwood, Panasonic, Alpine or Clarion- whatever you like best

Front speakers

__Infinity Kappa 60.3cs $175

Amp for fronts

__JBL P180.2 $149

Subs

__(1) 12" Infinity Perfect $179

Amp for subs

__JBL BP300.1 $145

This will cost you $648 at http://www.ikesound.com , which has free shipping. Leaving you PLENTY of money for a head unit. If you get a normal deck, meaning less than $300, then I would go to http://www.cbrstereo.com and pick up some Focal Utopia 165W component speakers for the fronts and the Precision Power PCX2125 amp to power them as an upgrade to the Infinity's with the JBL amp.

Other places to look online is http://www.uscaraudio.com and http://www.thezeb.com . For Adire Audio subs you can go to http://www.ampman.com .

Originally posted by camdog I have a 2001 Tahoe. What can I do with a meager $1,500. I'm not a base junkie. I just want my system to sound clear and crisp with some feelin'.
Come on guys, he just wants a clear and crisp sound. I tell you exactly what to get, you can send me the $1000 or so dollars left over, then I can buy myself a system, and we will all be happy. I suggest going with a 10" woofer, that will give you nice accurate bass, clear and crisp, just how you want it. I agree with wes, Infinity products definitely deliver that clear crisp sound you are looking for. Let me ask you another question, how can you call $1500 meager? That's more than I make in a month, if it's that much of a problem, I could take it off your hands.

I call $1,500 meager, because the Cha-Chi in HiFi Buys was trying to convince me to spend 3 grand to have an acceptable system. My mouth was dragging the ground. Here are my concerns:

1. I like things to look stock. If there was ever a way to keep the factory headunit and still have a good stereo, I would be all for it.

2. The Tahoe has a slot for a 8 inch sub. I would love to just upgrade the speakers and push them with amps to improve the sound. Is it possible to still get great sound with a factory head unit? What are the options.

3. Also, I can't install a light bulb. What should I look for in an installer?

First of all, you don't need to spend 3 Grand for a tight system, you probably won't even need to spend 1500.

1) I would suggest going with an install that hides the amp and so on. You can buy top of the line speakers and still have it look stock, my brothers truck came with factory JBL speakers.

2)There are modifications that can be made to the stock h/u, but I would suggest going with a new h/u, more features, and better output. Believe me, a new h/u will look much better than a stock h/u. An 8" sub will give you good crisp sound, it won't get bone crushing loud, but it will give you nice sound quality.

3)This one is easy, tell the installer what you want, if he/she tries to tell you what you want, then he/she is not the one you want. Basically, you know what you want, don't let them talk you into more money for something you particularly don't care for. Honesty also plays a big factor, talk to them, get an estimate, then ask around about it.

I got a good idea if you wanna look stock. Look into jbls the blacked faced cd player or sonys black faced cd player both very stealthy I am too lazy to look em up so you guys tell him the model. Pick up a JL audio or MTX stealth box get some kick panels get some good compnets and you will have an amazing stealthy system and should sound great just get the box and oyu choose the subs I would say teh shivas would do the job and alot cheaper than the perfect.

Please excuse this extra question .. Is there a specified patch lead or compatible bypass harness for the factory amp or would I have to create it...
