What SUBS for soundstream Reference 405?

thats because times have changed and 15yrs ago a good sub was like a entry level of today. if ur gonna run that little of power just grab any entry level sub for that matter. today people expect more that way i said 200rms isnt going to be enough...

Looking for advice on what sub or subs to buy for my Wrangler?
* Amp is Soundstream Reference 405

* Sub Channel is 1x200 watts rms @ 2 ohms, 1x240 watts rms @ 1 ohm

* Sealed Enclosure

* R&B favorite type of music

* Budget around $500

* Thinking 10" or 12"

* Have used Pioneer and Kicker in the past

* Looking for SQ more than SPL

If you really are looking for SQ, Id probably look at an IDQv.2 for that power. But tbh, even if I wanted a low key SQ setup like a single IDQ, Id want more power, even if I simply gained the amp down and gave the setup some headroom (that's very popular with the SQ competitors these days).
With a $500 budget, and the profits from the sale of your Ref405, you could buy a pretty good sub and new amp.

But if you are dedicated to using that amp, you are going to need a dual 2ohm sub (too lazy to look some up for you, sorry), or a pair whose final impedance is 1ohm mono. Dont go out and buy a $500 sub that wants 1500 watts and a (relatively) tiny enclosure, and then feed it 240 watts. IDQ's are my favorite low powered sub for SQ, but there are plenty of others.

If the Jeep is a soft top, a down-firing design will help contain the sound inside the cabin. Its a commonly used trick for convertibles.
