What size fuse for amp?

Hey

I just bought a MTX Thunder ta5601. I have it wired down to 2 ohms. Specs on it say it puts out 600 watts but I have heard from many people that it is underrated and puts out much more. The amp itself has three 25A fuses. I have 4awg wire running to it with a 60A fuse up front. Today I was just bumping and messing around with the loud setting on my Alpine HU by turning it on and off. I was bumping pretty hard when everything quit playing. I checked the fuse and it was blown. The fuse is a 60A round glass fuse. I checked all my wiring and didn't find anything that would cause it to blow. I did some reading and did some calculations and 600 watts divided by 12volts = 50 amps. Since this amp is underrated does that mean that the extra power being pulled through caused the fuse to blow? Should I replace the fuse with a larger fuse? 80A?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Yes, you need to put in a larger fuse. According to" the 12 volt .com" #4 wire can handle up to 150 amps so don't put in a fuse any bigger than 150 amps. Your amp must be drawing more than 60 amps for the fuse to blow...unless there is a short somewhere. Remember... the inline fuse is to protect the wire, not the amp.
