What size box for a 1242D sealed?

Hey,

I have an Alpine SWR-1242D and it is currently in a fairly large ported box (2.4 cubes). Anyways I have a new car now (2000 audi a4) and the old box is much too large for the trunk. I wanted to know what is a the best size for a sealed enclosure with this sub? Preferably as small as possible because the trunk is quite small.

The trunk should be big enough for you old box, but if you must seal it, 1.2 cubes is a good size.

The specs for the woofer say 0.57-1 cubic feet for sealed. Does anybody have any experience with sealed type Rs?

I haven't tried them sealed, I've only heard negative about it(but that doesn't really mean much). Optimum should be .78ft3 net or .85ft3 gross with a Qtc of .7. You can run them in 1.2ft ported nicely though...despite what most people say.

I really don't want to take up much trunk space with this install, preferably I would even do some sort of stealth install. I use this car for snowboarding so I need to have a lot of trunk space... I would like to go sealed but I really dont know if 1.2 feet would be big enough... Also do you guys know anyone that could design a box for me?

Read my post above... Do .85 -1ft3 gross and you'll be fine, its just not going to have anywhere near the output you have now.

ive had 1 Type R 12 in a sealed box thats around 1 cubic foot.. let me say it sounds a hell of alot better in a ported box..
