What RMS power amp should I get?

So I have two 4 ohm 400W RMS subs hooked in in series in my truck right now... I want to buy a new amp, but I don't know which one to buy. I know that I want a mono amp, but I don't know what the RMS power of the amp should be... Should it be an 800W RMS amp, or a 400W RMS? I assume 800W RMS, but I'm not too sure. Also I don't know which brands are trash and which ones are not. I know that Kicker is one of the best brands out there but I'm looking for an entry level amp that is decent but doesn't cost too much...

Edit: Ok so after googling, I found the Kenwood eXcelon X1200M Car Amplifier... It pushes 1200W RMS (Is that overkill?) at 2 ohms, but don't know if this is a good amp or not?

kicker isnt the best out there. i will tell you that now. whats your budget? and about how much power yes the 800w would be fine

I know that they aren't the best but that's the only decent brand that I know of... and I'm trying to spend between 100-150, but if convinced I'm willing to spend up to 200

Assuming the subs are a single voice coil, you'll want an amp that makes around 800wRms at 2ohms. If they are dual voice coil, you'll want something that makes the same power, but at 1ohm. Can't help ya much more until we know that.

Kicker makes a soild reliable amp. But I run one and it wasnt my first choice. That Kenwood is a joke.

Yup they're SVC... And yea they'd run at 2 ohms, I'd wire them like this:

As for the subs, they're some crap 12" Kenwoods, but I'm going to slowly upgrade everything in my truck as I get the funds...

Well you might as well start with the right amp. Buy the amp that will fit your FUTURE subs, and you can make it work with the current ones for now.

Well I went for that MB Quart Mono amp.... I bought it off of ebay for about $153 new and shipped.

I wanted to buy a new one here but everyone was selling me one for at least $200... :/

A lot of people are selling higher quality amps... But that MB is good... And it will allow you to go bigger, later, since you can run it later at 1 ohm (1500 watts).

Buy as much as u can afford assuming its a legit rating and that you can afford to power properly. Then once u get tired of the setup u will already have a amp that can give you more power so no need to rebuy a new amp.
