What ohms to run 2 12" IDQ's V3D4?

I'm going to be running 2 12" IDQ V3D4 with a DLS A6.

I talked to my car audio guy and he said that running them at 1 ohms is bad, since it creates more heat, more resistance and all in all less sound quality, and there will be more clipping etc. He suggested to run them at 4 ohms. Is that true? My main concern is that at 1 ohms the DLS can push 1200w meanwhile at 4 its just 500, so that would be 250 to each sub, which would be under powering them no?

What if I ran them at 1 ohms, but only at say 350-400 watts each? Would that be the same as running them at 1000-1100 watts at 1 ohm?

Is there any possible way to get them to work at 2 ohms?(I know there is a D2 version, but that doesnt help me now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif ) Thanks

first off the sales men is a retard. if your amp is 1ohm stable wich i see it is, then theres noting wrong with running them at 1ohm and feeding them more then there recomened power. hes half right when he says the SQ may suffer, but its to such an in-audioable degree that only a O scoop would pic it up. there might be more THD at 1ohm the 2ohms but, but once again, only a O scoop would pic it up. also what would u want to send those subs less power and have to realy work your amp, wich if the gains arent set corectly casue your underpowering them could send them a cliupped signal wich will produce more head and less SQ. your better off overpowering them a bit and having some headroom to work with. this way your amp isnt working its balls off to make the subs work. get the D4s and wire them to 1ohm. this is the only way for you far as im concernd. and if he convinces you other wise, perhaps you should just forget the whole car audio shit!

lol easy, so if anything, still run them at 1 ohms and maybe give them 450-500 rms instead of the 500+?

Also he said if I install another battery, it will put more load onto my alt, does that just mean itll take longer to charge both batteries?

What kind of vehicle is this in? How many amps is the stock alt, and what other equipment do you have in it? Depending on what all your running and what your stock alt is I would look at an HO alt before another battery.

At 1 ohm you will definitely have more heat, but again it depends on how long you listen to your music at full tilt.

Well I'm gonna hook up 2 big fans to the amp, so thats not a problem. I will be running say 1000 watts for the subs, and currently maybe 250 for the speakers. I'll be wanting to go 500 in the future for speakers. I have an 80amp alt. I have a 96 camry so a HO alt would cost alot more, so I'm hoping this extra battery will help.

run em at 1ohm and twist the gain till you here distortion! as for having a 2nd battery adding more strain on your alt, well, thats a maybe. the battery is realy only there to start the car. after that its the alt that handles all the elec loads of the car. however. the alt also brings the battery back up to charge after a load has been place on it. starting it, or using your sterio for long periods of time. IF you run your sterio off the battery for a long time, then YES, the alt is now responsible to bring 2 batterys back up to charge and still suply the car with elec to fofill the loads placed on it.

I would try it and see how bad your voltage drops, I'm running 700 to my subs and ~300 to my comps and haven't seen my voltage drop below 14v on a stock alt/stock battery in my 94 Mazda 626. I'd also recommend doing the big 3 in 1/0 to squeeze the maximum amount you can out of the stock electrical.

Also noticed it's an all Canadian thread so far.
