What kind of speakers & tweeters will sound best with the amp & subs I have?

I've got a 2003 Honda Accord,

Front speakers: 6.5"

Rear speakers: 6" x 9"

Tweeters: Not sure what size they are, but they are in the dash. Maybe someone can tell me what size? I can't find them on the Google :)

Anyways I have parts of a system left from a car I wrecked... I have two 10-inch, 1000-watt JBL subs (not sure what model #) and a JBL 300-watt amp (JBL GT5-A3011). I am planning to install the amp and subs in my trunk, but I'm looking to upgrade the 6 inside factory speakers. I want to know what will give me the best sound with the amplifier and subs I already have. Any advice?

I don't think you have given enough information. First, how much RMS wattage do you have available to the front speakers? I am not asking about peak wattage, which is pretty much useless. Looking at the description of JBL GT5-A3011, it doesn't seem like you can drive your speakers with that, it's a monoblock subwoofer amplifier. So effectively, you have yet to design and build most of your car audio system as it appears that you only have the sub amplifier and subwoofers. Hopefully, someone more knowlegeable about 2003 Accord will chime in. I assume that 2003 Accord is old enough so you can fit a standard aftermarket stereo into it, as opposed to newer cars where there is no way to install an aftermarket stereo in the standard dash location. The first thing that you need to figure out is how to send signal to speaker amplifiers. Ideally you want to put in an aftermarket stereo with 2-3 sets of RCA outputs so you could send a clean signal to speaker and subwoofer amplifiers with RCA cables. If you can't do that, then you will need to tap into high level speaker signal with a specialized amplifier speaker-level inputs or an aftermarket signal processor. Only after you sort out all those things and decide on an amplifier for speakers, can you start thinking about what speakers to buy.

The 2003 has a built-in radio that can be replaced if you have the manual A/C controls. If they are digital, the HU remains. Metra sells a HU install kit for the pocket beneath the HU.

The factory tweeters are 3/4" but a 1" fits fine with some mounting modifications. You'll need to custom make a tweeter bracket to rear mount the tweeter on the factory grill. The mounting is tricky though and you have limited depth.

The front doors have about 2-1/2" of depth with a mounting baffle.

The factory HU in the 2003-2005 is known for issues. Only a matter of time beforeit has a problem. For the best sound, a new HU in the lower pocket that feeds amps for the speakers and subs is the way to go. Plenty of options for this car, many speakers will fit. Thumper26 on SoundDomain and DIYMAhas done several MECA builds with the car.

Buy speakers based on budget. Invest in the best comp set you can afford to amplify well. Rear speakers are optional and a secondary priority. Bass in the trunk will distort them anyway. Removing them will let more bass through.

I would definately opt for these Death series The speaker itself is a giant warning label don't turn the volume all the way up!. They look extremely cool as well so you can cut your door panel to really let them shine! It's halloween all year round with boss audio.

I almost groaned you....

thank god someone started a thread with 6.5, 6x9 and tweeters. the same speaker sizes I have. didnt want to become a pest. thanks dude.

here is what I am think I am going with

6x9 cadence xs693

6.5 infinity 6032cf

1" tweeters- cadenceZRS30-T

anything here look ok or not

Not sure how much room back of Honda Accord is but I would skip the rear 6x9 and install another pair of 6.5" in backseat side panels (facing same direction as front door speakers). Using rear 6x9s facing upwards into rear window is strange dynamic and not the best use of speakers. I have two sets of ADS 6.5" in this configuration and it's the only way to mount speakers.
