i don't know much about car audio but i have 2 pioneer 12" 1400w 4 ohm dual coil champion series. i have a few questions:

1. how many channels should the amplifier be to sound the best?

2. how many watts should the amplifier be? with 2 subs at 1400watts in each sub 2800 watts total some said it the amplifier should be 2800 watts. some said it should be a few hundred watts under so the subs don't blow?

thanks in advanced for help.

headroom in the amp is always good so if they are 1400W I'm 99.9% sure thats max so your rms is 6-700. so look for an amp that is 1500rms. You can always turn the amp gain down but you can't turn it up without clipping it. make sure you do your research on the amp before you buy. many swap meet, flea market style amps will say 3000WATTS! but in reality put out 300.

theres a ppi 1800 for sale right now if i were you id scoop it up and set your gains very conservatively. its a really good amp for the price i think he want 150 plus shipping

never mind scratch that your subs are only 400rms so an amp that puts out 1000rm clean is cool. hit up mylows10 hell probably have something for you.

there are 2 distinct types of audiophiles, there are those that get an amplifier that isn't powerful enough to run the subs so they have to crank the gain up and then it's clip city, then there's those that get an amplifier that is larger than it needs to be so they keep the gains turned down where they belong. you choose which type of audiophile you are.

you dont have to use all of the wattage your amplifier puts out. There's a thing called gain settings. you'll probably wont be satisfied with the bass if you underpower a 400 watt rms speaker by a few hundred. thats pretty much almost all of the sub's power handling already...

You'll get unresponsive and unimpressive bass and you'll try to compensate by cranking up the volume or gains and forcing your weak amplifier to go into overdrive and put out power that it cannot possibly dream to make which turns the signal into pure distortion and it will drive the amp into clipping leading to blown subs. Always over never under with subwoofer power.

You can get away with underpowering mids and highs speakers but not so much with subs unless your a professional box builder or buy an extremely well made and efficient subwoofer box.

Like I said 1000 rms at 1 ohm mono block. I wouldn't push those subs past that should be able to find an amp for $150 or less that would do the trick
ok. so with the 2 subs at 1400w in each sub, a 1000 rms at 1ohm mono block amp should do the trick? is there a certain brand thats better that i should get or any brand will do?(srry for all the questions im kind of illiterate when it comes to car audio lol)

Just really depends on your budget. Like said already. Max ratings mean nothing. So don't go by those. Go by rms ratings. In your case it's 400 each. A bit over is fine
