What is wrong with front fire?

My boss HATES front firing with a passion. I like it much better with my L5's cause I can feel it and I hear the subs rather than my trunk. Ive had the box both ways. I got more depth from it being rear facing but obviously it just a mess of echos and rattle. loud but i cant actually hear the beat as well. It seems to be the standard to have them rear facing, but why? convenience? looks? ive read all about different ways to fire and I dont see why people dont like shooting forward as much. At the same time I do see many people fireing forward on this site. For SQ, would you guys think front fire is better? and how far from the rear seats should it be?

and I dont see a good thing in a trunk that is sealed from the back with no opening to the front of the car. it seems like then you will just be hearing very little of the sound waves coming from outside the car and through the back of the box. a guy i know has his set up like that and doesnt seem all that loud and it he is running about 400 more watts than me.

please edumicate me on why i should not front fire my sealed box.

thanks

If you like it better, then by all means keep it that way.
i like the way you think. my boss disagrees //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

any more opinions?.....facts?

personal prefrence? ive always heard that the box should be all the way to the front, firing to the rear, or all the way to the rear, firing to the front

guess its better to have as much air space as possible in front of the woofs

see thats what ive been told as well, but ive never really seen it proven in fact except for the spl meter....which honestly isnt a big deal. id rather have great sq.

Does he pay for your car?

Your setup?

If not, then to hell with what he thinks.

It's called standing waves. If you front fire without sealing off the entire trunk opening, you will get these behind your enclosure, causing cancellation. That's why it sounds louder with it firing backwards. You also are giving the woofer something to load off of when you fire it rearward.

well i would build a sealed wall behind the box.
