What is this sound, and why do I have it.

Heck, I'll just put them back on 100w @ 4 ohms and give it a go on that. Maybe I need to stiffen up my door to get the response I want and work on the EQ.

Thanks for the advice.

I bought an Infinity subwoofer that had the same problem. I thought it was the voice coil also but when I pushed down on the cone there was no rubbing. With some fiddling around I found out the terminals to where the tinsel leads connect didn't have a good connection. So I hooked up the speaker wire straight to the tinsel leads and VOILA! no more sound. It has been working fine ever since. Not sure if this would be the case for you also but it doesn't hurt to try.
I'll definately give that a try.

Edit: Tried it. No luck. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I called Madisound and they said I could send them back and they would test them.

What sucks is the clay that fell onto them, will likely be the reason they say caused it. Even if it wasn't what truly caused it, I have a feeling they'll see that and think "abuse" right away. Even though I babied these, and had clay melt and fall onto one.

Just went outside and tested them again...up to 75 watts @ 4 ohms, they're alright, but after that they started making that **** sound. They barely move and they sound like that. I don't know wtf is going on.

Just to make sure on the whole power issue:

The resistance across the VC is 6.8 ohms. I tested ac voltage @ the point where the sound is made and figured power from that. 24.7^2/6.8=90watts.

Can't hear what the issue is in the video. Try different sine tones and find the one that does it the most and make a recording with just that.

How is your crossover set?
