What is the difference between 12" subs and 15" subs?

The really sad part is, you actually believe that's the discussion here. Lets rewind 6 pages...
Looks like the only thing I got wrong was, it wasn't the OP with the faulty 'same model' arguement, it was you. You want to debate with the big kids, but you fail to even understand what is discussed.

This forum needs a dunce cap, and a corner with a stool in it.

edit: I did not read the entire post about the weird noise, just answered about possible issues with sub placement in a vented system.

Curious I see this asked, as I just cited a passage from the LDC about this in a paper for school. When you are trying to decide where to place a speaker on a baffle, you want it to be different distances from all panel edges to minimize diffraction. However, this only becomes important above I'd say 1000hz, thus not within the realm of a subwoofer. But when making a loudspeaker, offset any tweeters you might have, and if possible, round over all baffle edges.

Son, that's what this whole forum talks about. You've only been here for a few weeks at most, and you should already know that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

th... is that you cannot say that a larger cone size is going to play lower, louder. this, again, is a generalization, and not a fact.
Sifting through 19 pages of people arguing back and forth I am certain of only a few things:

#1) This topic comes up once every 4-6 months and has similar outcomes. Every single time.

#2) Hoss's quote above is and/or should be the end of this thread. The idea of a larger sub going lower than a smaller sub is a generalization. It can be proven wrong, and is proven wrong everywhere on this forum. Search old posts and it comes up everywhere.

#3) The rest of Hoss's post is true also, especially this part:

sure, you can generalize that most of the time within a certain companies line of woofers the 15" is going to be louder and play lower than a 12", a 10", or an 8" of the same companies same line of product. and at the same time you can generalize that the smaller woofers are going to work in smaller boxes, work off of less power, and have a lower Qts. i mean hell, if they designed them all to have the exact same specs, lets face it, everyone would just make one size of woofer and be done with it. but they dont, because that would not be an ideal business model.
#4) From what I've read, Audioholic is on the same wave-length and has said similar things.

#5) Why am I replying to this topic again?

#6) Wait, I know, it's because Hoss is sexy. Yep, that's it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I switched to a 15 from a 12 and basically all i really saw was that people could hear me farther away and you could feel the bass a lot more. But in an suv i would suggest the 15's if you have the space why not go a little bigger and with a 15 you still typically retain a decent amount of sound quality. Hope it helps you somewhat
