What HDTV do you use?

The DVD forum has recently announced it's backing the HD-DVD format rather than bluray, so it looks as if sony has created the beta/superbeta/betacam/minidisc/umd/SACD/PDD all over again, not to mention TDK already has talks of introducing a 6-layer 200gig media, and of course the D-data DMD (formerly called the FMD) which uses the more stable red-laser format, but can hold 1TB per disc, and the Optiware HVD which is actually a holographic media which can store 3.9TB per disc, and already has drives available for professional and medical data storage.

Blu-ray will be another dead sony-only media format.

I don't understand why they always have to have their own incompatible, proprietary format.....

Sharp 65" (I think) DLP and a 50" Vizio Plasma, both purchased from Costco. I love the picture quality on both. Both being powered by DirecTV HD-DVRs (aka: Tivo) connected by HDMI cables.

My biggest complaint is the scarcity of HD channels on DirecTV but that is supposed to improve in the coming year.

Remember, just like in car audio, a lot depends on your sources and source material.

also none of the 50" samsung plasmas are 1080p anyway

1366x768.

There are always higher resolutions on the way ... It doesn't mean that you're going to be able to see the difference from 6 feet away ...
yep just like some people say there is a huge difference between hdmi and component

shit I cant tell the difference at all 10+ feet away.

there's virtually no difference between hdmi and component if it's a single source-to-tv connection

the hdmi's signal degrades if there's multiple connections through a receiver, etc. or if the cable is longer than 5 or 6 feet due to increased loss and noise due to single stranded square cable, and decreased surface area of the interconnects
