What does it take to get louder down low????

Yea the same thing happened to me... I started out with my sub in a sealed box that was too big for it (or atleast I thought so at the time.) When lows hit, it shook my entire car to peices, but it wouldn't hit the punchy bass worth a crap. Then I made a smaller box and got all that punchy bass I've been lacking, but then I missed that insane low end. Now I really appreciate the lows and made a happy medium box that I believe sounds fine.
Once you've had the lows though, its hard to live without them lol

i feel a little better knowing im not the only one going trough this. which kinda sux cuz the whole idea was me spending the loot for the better sub i though i would get the whole works and really wasnt expecting it not to be punchy. i accually though it would be alot more punchy cuz everyone would big up the sub. but now i know u got to comprimise to gainn in other areas

Before i KNEW subs were all about tradeoffs, i always seemed to be happy with my randomly chosen setup... It seems like the more you learn about speakers, the more you constantly wonder what else is out there you might be missing out on!!!

I took my car to a few kicker shops today, and let them listen to it, they said it sounds just like it should, so i know i'm not doin anythingwrong on my end, it's just not the sound i was looking for, bummer.

are RE SE's known for good lows as well? I have heard good things about them being loud down low... could be wrong?

I had a SE12 and it had insane lows when ported. Sealed the low end wasnt that impressive, but it could have been because the box was too small =/. but only 400w was enough to shake the piss out of my rearview mirror and make it drop, as well as vibrate my face and the hairs in my nose //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
