What does an mdf trunk floor do for you?

keeps your heavy subwoofer box from breaking your stock carpet/cardboard false floor from breaking, gives you something to mount your amps on. Besides that, i think thats it. Pretty sure there's very minimal(if any) acoustical gains from doing so and even less vibration control/deadening gains from doing so.

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.
