I was at Sound Advantage today, a local car audio store, and they recently started selling Memphis Audio amps. I couldn't believe how small they are, I always saw pictures online of the Memphis Belle and I thought it was huge, I never though of looking at the dimension specs online. When I saw the Memphis Belle in front of me I couldn't believe that it's the size of some 2 channel amps.
Anyway, the sales guy said they are good amps, and the next thing up from them that they sell are Diamond Audio and those are $$$
I'm want to do a nice, clean, stealthy install in my new Mazda 3 and there are some compartments that open up under the floor in the rear hatch area. The height in there is about 3 or 4 inches. The first phase of my car audio installation is to add a subwoofer and keep the everything else stock. I decided I'm going with an IDQ10v2-d4 subwoofer because of the small sealed enclosure it can work in. It needs up to 300W RMS, so I'm thinking about getting the Memphis 16-MC250D Class D amplifier, here are some specs (btw this is the older better looking (IMHO) model, the all metal one):
Ratings at 13.8V
RMS Power at 4 ohms: 125W x 1
RMS Power at 2 ohms: 250W x 1
THD 4 ohms: 0.30%
THD 2 ohms: 0.50%
S/N Ratio: > 94 dB
Fuse: 20A x 1
Dimensions: 6.5 x 2 x 8.25
I'm used to seeing lower total harmonic distortion ratings though, but I have never installed a dedicated Class D sub amp before so I'm not sure if it makes a difference or if sub amps have more THD.
So is this a good amp or not? The price is about $200 and they're an authorized dealer so I get the 3 or 5 year warranty, I don't remember.
