What do you guys think about Memphis Audio amps?

I was at Sound Advantage today, a local car audio store, and they recently started selling Memphis Audio amps. I couldn't believe how small they are, I always saw pictures online of the Memphis Belle and I thought it was huge, I never though of looking at the dimension specs online. When I saw the Memphis Belle in front of me I couldn't believe that it's the size of some 2 channel amps.

Anyway, the sales guy said they are good amps, and the next thing up from them that they sell are Diamond Audio and those are $$$

I'm want to do a nice, clean, stealthy install in my new Mazda 3 and there are some compartments that open up under the floor in the rear hatch area. The height in there is about 3 or 4 inches. The first phase of my car audio installation is to add a subwoofer and keep the everything else stock. I decided I'm going with an IDQ10v2-d4 subwoofer because of the small sealed enclosure it can work in. It needs up to 300W RMS, so I'm thinking about getting the Memphis 16-MC250D Class D amplifier, here are some specs (btw this is the older better looking (IMHO) model, the all metal one):

Ratings at 13.8V

RMS Power at 4 ohms: 125W x 1

RMS Power at 2 ohms: 250W x 1

THD 4 ohms: 0.30%

THD 2 ohms: 0.50%

S/N Ratio: > 94 dB

Fuse: 20A x 1

Dimensions: 6.5 x 2 x 8.25

I'm used to seeing lower total harmonic distortion ratings though, but I have never installed a dedicated Class D sub amp before so I'm not sure if it makes a difference or if sub amps have more THD.

So is this a good amp or not? The price is about $200 and they're an authorized dealer so I get the 3 or 5 year warranty, I don't remember.

Memphis Audio is one of the best audio brands peroid. I've never had any problems with them.. I had a 1000 mono Memphis Audio amp for about 2 years.. and NEVER had any problems, the amp sounded great and never got hot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Goodluck.

memphis makes excellent equipment, I ran a memphis sub in the past and enjoyed it, and I have a friend who used the 1000d amp for a while and loved it, memphis is one of the top brands out there IMO

Cool, it's good to know. So is 250W enough for an Image Dynamics 10-inch IDQ? I used to run 300W to my old 12-inch MTX shitty sub and it sounded decent, this will be my first SQ sub.

The salesman also said that I shouldn't have any overheating issues running the amp in the compartment because their class D and AB amps don't get very hot unless they're pushed to the limit.

memphis are the shit, period...... used the 1000d and still have my 75x4ch and it is qualty all around. low THD on the class D's while being mad efficent, almost impossible to blow them up (ALMOST heheheh) and thier class a/b's are amazing, my 4ch is the best 4xh for the money i have worked with to date. quality per dollar is the only way to discribe memphis amp...you get what you pay for, good shit

I run Diamond and Memphis amps

my 500D is the size of a book, they are all small compared to whats out in the marketplace

but they produce very close to what they advertise,no more no less and make real nice SQ

I like em .........Price wise Memphis and Diamond are pretty close watt for watt

but Diamonds amps are way underrated, you pay for 1000 and get 20% more free //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've ran xtant (loved but refuse to buy since being bought out), orion (also liked until being bought out), eD (which i hated) and now memphis. and i'd have to say that i'm in love with my memphis amps. great performance per dollar and one of the smallest footprints you can find. I don't see myself switching to a new amp manufacturer for a long time although i don't care for the looks of the new memphis amps with the ghey light around the "M". I like the classy look of last years amps, IMO.

Who designs Memphis amps? I have noticed that the internals of the Mojo are in the exact same locations as the internals of the Viper 2500d, and also it's the same case with the memphis 1000d and some other amp that I cant remember now. I don't really like the idea of companies selling stuff that they didn’t even design (yes I know this is very common) .
