What do I need to do to correctly power a Sundown Audio SA-2000D Amp?

I can get this amp that is one year old for $325. I think it's a great deal and it'll push a Sundown Audio X12? Is that too much power for it??

Anyways My truck has a 130A alt and a stock battery. I know I'll need 0 Gauge OFC wiring. But what else do I need to correctly run this??

thanks

I think 2kW RMS will stress out your electrical, even with 0 gauge OFC and the Big 3 Upgrade. I also think that's way too much for a 1,250W RMS sub.

However, if you're running it at 2 ohms for 1kW RMS I think you'll be good in terms of both.

You know what I think I'll either stick with my original plan (PDX-M12) or wait for a nice SAZ-1200d or 1500d to come along.

thanks sir

You're welcome.

I don't know the coil configuration of your X12. If you can't run it at 2 ohms, skip the 2000d, otherwise I'd reconsider. You could always resell the amp or utilize it to its full potential down the road.

I'm buying a new X12 and trying to find a good amp to go with it that I can run in my truck with or without a battery upgrade...

I guess trying to aim in the 1250-1500 watt range. Currently considering the PDX-M12 as I can run at 2 ohm or 4 ohm and get 1200w both way (not sure which way is more beneficial) and t'll stack nicely on top of my PDX-F4. But if I can find a decent 1200/1500w amp for $300 bucks I'll throw in the remaining $200 off my $500 amp budget and buy a D3400 for under the hood or whatever... for electrical stability.

If you have the option, the same option at the higher impedance would be better. $500+ for 1,200W is nuts. I've heard real good things about Precision Power's Black Ice Series, but it's been discontinued. They have a ppi bk1300.1d that you can find for significantly cheaper. I've been told American Bass makes good amps as well.

The SAZ-1200D is $469.00 brand new. I'm just trying to get clean efficient power from 1200w-1500w. With the PDX series you're paying for an amazing amp. My 4 chan when blasting all day while camping or whatever at max tilt is "metal cold" it doesn't even get warm. I think 4 ohm on those amps are close to 92% efficient. It really is impressive. I'll look into those amps for sure though!

thanks!

You dont have to use all of the 2000 watts, set the gains properly and you can run that with the sundown X just fine. Using a digital multi-meter, you can adjust the gain/input level to determine how much power your sending your sub, just set it for 1200 with the . Most you'll need is a good agm battery under the hood or a secondary agm battery near the amp. You gotta account for impedance/box rise too, your not gonna see the full 2000 watts nor are you gonna see the amp pulling 200 amp of current draw on music. When you do get the battery in, just play on full tilt meanwhile monitoring your voltages and heat levels of your equipment, thats the only true way to know if your able to run your system or not. Most likely Your sundown X will eat up all 2k watts easily if given a clean signal and your electrical system with an AGM battery in it wont even dip below 13V.
