What configuration for maximum power?

I'm shooting for 1 or 2ohms. I currently have 1 Alpine Type R (guy from craigslist said it's dual 4ohms and it's wired for 2ohms). I plan on getting another Type R so should I get a 4ohm Type R or a two ohm Type R? I plan on getting a new amp to run them both as well.

another dual 4 ohm, so you can wire a amp down to 1 ohm. give the pair around 1500 watts and you will be good
RMS? And thanks, I'll make sure I get the 4 ohm version.

Never mix and match impedance. Run all the same subs. Wire accordingly.
Noted.

When and if you buy that second type R, you'll need to buy a new amp thats 1ohm stable since the M500 is not stable at 1ohm and you'll fry it.
I don't plan on using the M500, my Pioneer GM-D8500M isn't even up to the job. I'll buy both the amp and sub at the same time in a couple of days.

I've heard that ported boxes with dual chambers are a little better, do you guys think this is true? I have a sealed box for two 12's but my Type R is in a ported box for one 12. If I get another Type R I'll probably just buy another ported box for one 12, unless is would sound better if they were in the same box. Would I get better sound if they were in the same box? The way I see it, two separate ported boxes is pretty much the same as one with dual chambers.
