what causes a low hum when your system is on?

It never did this till I added a much larger setup.
Does this interference become noticeable when you use a lot more power?
Do you have multiple amps? Perhaps it's a ground loop issue. You can try to narrow down where it comes from, unplug the RCA's from your amp(s) and see if the noise goes away. Perhaps it's being induced from your amp.

so I unplugged the RCA's from my MA amp and no hum but when I ground the rca's out the hum remains.

I have both amps grounded to the body. will grounding them to the frame help?

Not really a permanent fix and it would definitely cut output...
OP how did you set your gains?
Well, I had my amp set by the local pros and they found audible distortion at a little over half. I tuned it down a little under half.

I was disappointed that he didn't use a a os meter to find the real gain distortion. I wish I had one of those tools:)
