Hi everybody,

I just purchased a 2003 Chevy Impala and unfortunately it doesnt have a CD player. It has the factory tape/am/fm radio. I went to circuit city and purchased a sony head unit that plays mp3 cd's and has an auxiliary input, thinking i could connect my mp3 player. When I went to have it installed, they told me it would be 170 for parts because the factory stereo has to be left in, since it controls something in the car. I wasnt sure if he was lying so I gave back the stereo. Has anybody ever heard of this situation and what do you recommend I do? I have no experience with car audio and probably wouldnt be able to install it myself. I dont want anything expensive or fancy, just something that plays mp3 cd's and that I can hook up my mp3 player to.

Yes, 2000+ Impalas control tire pressure, iol pressure and something else i forget through the factory radio. The harness to take out the factory radio is kinda expensive for a harness, but it will relocate the stock radio to the trunk and you can still have every function. Pain in the *** car to work with //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif But good looking car lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was thinking about putting in a cd changer then, but that wont let me hook up my mp3 player. Is there anything else I can possibly do?

Just go all out and get a nice CD player, dont get Sony's they arent that good in car audio unless you really buy their highest line. Look into Pioneer Premier or alpine, and get that Harness and have a local shop do it, not Best Buy or Circuit city.

they actually had free installation thats why I went to circuit city. that harness was like 150 bucks. The reason i want something cheap is I spent all my money on the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Im not too concerned with amazing quality, just a way to play cds.

I have an 05 Impala and from the suggestions of members on this forum I purchased a Peripheral GMCO wiring harness so I don't need to relocate my stock radio. I replaced the radio and it has worked great. I picked it up on ebay for ~$60 shipped.

I do have the cd changer controls in the trunk, I still would rather have a local shop install it. Can anyone recommend a cd changer that will play mp3 disks and isnt too expensive? I'd like to spend as little as possible(I know I'm sacrificing quality)
