What can Goob do to make this site better

I like the idea of a newb section.

But with no bashing what so ever taking place and that be enforced.

All links to basic car audio understanding can be in there and it be a place strictly for new people to post in. Heck maybe even have a require number of posts in that section before you can venture out to other areas of the forum.

But in general I think a newbie section would greatly cut down on the people saying that all there is here is "people running off all the new ones by bashing them and being hurtful"

I like that people are being given infractions for acting like the whole site is the dome. It gets old seeing a help threads first page full of people calling the op names because he asked a simple question or doesn't understand everything about car audio. This should be THE car audio site and having a useful, helpful forum section I think is paramount. I like the dome as a source of entertainment and it's free for all nature but not so much when the whole site feels like it.

For mods, why not vote? Put up a poll and lets decide.

Thankyou for the thread MoT, good idea. I'll repost what I said in the other thread.

1) Organize classifieds like caco. I dont care either way, I see advantages to both, but when the question of what's better about caco comes up this is always the majority response.

2) Have a lead moderator. You, Goob, arent here enough to keep site moderation consistent day to day, or even week to week. A single person who oversees the mod staff would go a long ways towards fixing several things. This lead mod would need the power to hire/fire though, and obviously need to be a trusted individual for that reason.

3) Keep the forum members updated on the fix for the search function, as imo its a very important tool for the site.

4) Dont expect to please everyone. Great strives have been made on this site in the past year, yet some people still complain bitterly.

5) Keep the rules in the thunderdome as lenient as possible, with one mod whose sole purpose is overseeing the t-dome, voted into position by means of popularity, but whose moderation is monitored by the lead mod.

IMO.

Simply reporting any of those types of posts will go a long ways in stopping it

I just want to know why the hell everyone seems to want to turn this site into the same thing as every other site. All the suggestions given turn the site into either smd/caco/diyma. Personally I come here because it is different.

Things I like are:

1. Basic breakdown of classifieds, no need for 100 sub sections.

2. Post dumping allowed, people whine about it, because they are the ones trying to sell their gear for more than it is worth. Dumpin keeps em honest.

3. Dome should have 2 parts.....work safe and nsfw.

4. Have a newbie section, so they can be coddled in there.....

5. Screw the infraction system, give a warning.....then a week off.

6. Auto merge double posts!!!! Especially when the site posts up to 3 or 4 times off the one.

7. Search button would be nice, but if you go into a sectio, the search button works for that section.

1: i would like it to be broken down into categories a bit more than it is.

2: I'll be around more now that i have the net back on at the house. I'm normally on mon-fri 8-5.

3: not that big of a deal to me since i know how to use google

4: indeed

5: i would like to see it as a free for all with no real rules aside from keeping things respectful

Fixing the double post problem would be great and it wouldn't be that difficult. All you have to do is require 5 seconds between each post, kind of like how we're required to wait 5 seconds between searches? I believe it's over on ROE that if it lags and tries to double post the server automatically stops it and says something about having to wait 5 seconds between posts and that this is possible the result of a double post.

I too think that we need more mods. We have 4 right now and they have lives so they can't be here 24/7. I think for a forum this size the moderator staff needs to be larger. Also I think some kind of hierarchy within the mod staff would be good, so we don't have all the mods with unlimited power and no one to watch over them. Like a few mods who only have power in the classifieds, and maybe one for the dome, then a couple that have global power, etc. I mean, I for one don't want this place to turn into CACO with how strict the rules are but right now it's like the wild west //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know it would initally be unpopular, but the troll/scammer thing could be lessened, and possibly some of the BS advertising if Goob considered a membership fee. If it was only $5 it would deter a great amount of the troll and scammers as they wouldn't want to put out the money in the first place. It would be a revenue stream for Goob, allowing him to lessen the amount of adds that detract from the experiance (IMO)

I personally wouldn't have an issue paying $5/year to be a basic member. And for more privilages, you could pay more, maybe $25 to access the "members only" area.
