I need a new box, but don't know anything about them and don't know what kind to get. I know mostly everyone that reads this will just say to make a custom box but I don't really want to. Alright, I have 2 12" Alpine type R 500rms, 1500 peak, dual voice coil. I have a 1600w amp wired down to 1ohm. I will be pushing quite a bit of sound and want the best box. I don't really know to get slotted, bandpass, ported, subwoofer...I really don't know anything about boxes. Oh, this is in a 95 Toyota 4Runner SUV if that makes a difference. Does anyone have any suggestions to what will be the best and give me the best sound. Thanks,

Id go ported/slotted/vented if I were you...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/imo.gif.3a57bcc70a4835dc53e86ffae1a0b041.gif

if you wanna make your own box PM Moe Lester and for couple bucks he can design you an enclosure

Vented, ported, slotted = smae thing (ported)

Never buy a prefab box. Be it ported, sealed, or band pass. If you do make sure it is constructed of at least .75" MDF wood. And make sure the enclosure volume matches your subs recommended enclosure size.

Sorry but I don't know what spl or sq means. I listen to rap, hip hop, techno, anything with a good beat. I was looking around online about boxes and several people were talking about tuning a box. What does that mean and will I need a box tuned or something? Also how do you determine what size of box? My subs have a recommended air space of 0.7-1.0 cu. ft. with a mounting depth of 178mm (7”) and a mounting diameter of 275mm (10-7/8”). Sorry if I sound stupid but I am a huge newb at this.

spl- sound pressure level

sq- sound quality

with that taste in music, you will most likely want to go ported.

dont eer build a box to manufactorers specs, thats the minimal box the sub can be played in if you want reall output from your R's do a big vented box

Sorry but I don't know what spl or sq means. .
SPL - Sound pressure level - basically loud as heck.

SQ - Sound quality - basically less output, best sound.

tuning a box. What does that mean and will I need a box tuned or something? .
You tune a ported box. Using the port. Depending on how large the box is, you adjust the port surface area and length to tune it. A box builder will do this for you when they build the box.

REC space is a good size to have.

Alright, ported it is. Now if anyone has any suggestions on a brand to look for (if boxes even come in brands, sorry, still a newb.) I know at least .75" MDF wood and carpeted, does anyone know the name of a good box that may be like this?
