Im going for sq in this setup. I listeb to mostly rap, but i like to liaten to some songs where i can hear every string being played. Im dynamatted the doors next week. So i should go for a 3 way or a 2 way? And whats the difference?

Do ok...but nothing special or able to keep up with the rest of the system.

And to the OP if you can find a 3 way setup with passive x-overs you will probably be very happy. If I recall correctly, there is an eclipse 3 way set avail for cheap that falls in that category.

Got a link to the eclipse 3 way? Any reccomendation on brands for tweeters and 3 ways? I have a 10 speaker set up in my car stock, would i have to replace all 10 speakers??

Back to the original question, i i get a 3 way n cross it over at say 60-70hz, tuning the sub to 30 should be fine then right, eveything should blend in and there wont be that missing gap anymore right? Whats a good rms for speakers? Lol im new to speakers too. I usually install subs on the weekends sometimes, but thats about it lol

So help me understand tuning cuz I have only had sealed boxes. If your box is tuned to 28, it will play low. My understanding is 28 is where it would be peaking and starts to fall off under that? If a guy is tuned to 40 or 45, his tune is higher and he falls off under that. Basically that type of tune will be loud from 100 to 45 but wont really play low? So guys with these higher tunes are really just trying to be loud and not worried about lows. I am going to have 8"s as midbass so my midbass cut is going to be around 60. I would want a low tuned sub if I went ported? Help me if I am going the wrong direction

^^ Correct. Tuning to 28hz is usually considered "flat" and has very little to no peak at 28hz, the response is nearly flat from there out. When you tune higher, you wind up with a peak near your tuning frequency and can have quite a big boost depending on type of box (ported, 4th or 6th order) and port type.

For subs I'm running 2 Phoenix Gold titanium 12's tuned to 31hz. I have 8" mid's in the doors LPF'd at 80hz, and SoundStream 6.5" 3-way coaxials that play above that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif probably the oddest setup on the forum, but sounds good.

Well I believe Dr. Subwoofer recommends 30hz for the best sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
38hz * //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Would there be a big difference tuning 28 compared to 30?
Not a huge difference, but I would expect at least a 1 or 2db boost around 30/31hz (if tuned to 30hz). The easiest way to tell is to plug your box into WinISD and try it at 28 and 30 to see for yourself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
