what are some brands of wire? What is the best?

Highest the wire is rated for.
So your are telling me that you put a fuse on all of you wire that is rated for the max amperage of said wire? If you wire is rated at say 300amps and your amplifier is rated for 200amps, your saying you run a 300amp fuse inline and then a 200amp fuse inline? Guess i just know that if you blow a fuse rated at less than the max of the cable your going to stop current flow.

you can fuse the wire anywhere inbetween the current draw of the equipment and the max current handling of the wire (so in that case 200-300 amps). if your equipment has fuses in it, it is (almost always) already protected. if not, the external fuse should match the equipment, not the wire, but within the safe amperage rating of the wire. it still protects the wire no matter what though.

X 2 Same as i said before. I have not ever fused wire......always the equipment.

You must have a fuse within 18" of the battery, that isn't there to protect your equipment, but to keep you from burning down your car. If your power wire shorts out before the amp and you have no fuse, get ready for the fireworks.

Majority of amps are protected by their internal fuses... If they are externally fused (by the user) because there are no internal fuses you have to fuse to protect the equipment BUT within the rating of the wire. IE you can't fuse a 300A amplifier on 250A wire, but can fuse 300A amplifer on 300+amp wire

Who in their right mind would do that?
Half the idiots who think they are installers.

Here is the best way to install fuses, I'm gonna go on a bit of a rant here because nothing better to do.

  1. No matter what, you need a fuse within 18" of your battery. There is no excuse not having this. The cost is minimal and the damages that would happen if you didnt do it are so high you would be retarded not to.
  2. If you have 2 batteries you need a fuse within 18" the first battery, 18" before the second battery, and after the second batter. the one after the second battery is not as important as the first 2, but hey it's only 10 bucks so why not do it?

Fair enough, we just don't want any of that happening here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
