what are some brands of wire? What is the best?

Welding lead wire. Cheapest copper wire that you'll find and more than flexible enough. No reason to pay as much as 2x more for "car audio" wire that really has no special properties.

Fuse it at the fuse rating of the equipment it is powering.

Kicker wire is the easiest to work with, and looks very nice. I personally use nothing but kicker wire in my installs now.

All wire is rated at 600V. That doesn't mean anything.

I use the Knu KLMX. No reason to use anything different for most people.

No, the cross sectional area of the wire is bigger than 90% of the car audio brands out there.

I dont personally fuse my wire, i fuse the equipment.

Thats why your equipment should already have fuses on it. If your amp is drawing 300amps through the wire rated for 250amps, you should be less concerned about your equipment and more concerned about the fire you have to put out in your car.

Should note my amp doesn't have any internal fuses, but I have to fuse it externally.
