What amplifier to use with Alpine Type-R

Hi everyone, i have seen an advert for a deal including a 12" type-r SWR-1242D sub, alpine MRP-M450 amp, and box for £80, or about $130, which is VERY cheap for some reason. I checked on the Alpine website to see if this is the right amp but is says i should use mrp-650 instead.

The sub is rated at -

Peak Power 1500W

RMS Power 500W.

The MRP-M450 amp is rated at -

RMS Power (at 14.4V THD+N, 20Hz-20kHz)

Per channel into 4 ohms: 220W x 1 (1% THD)

Per channel into 2 ohms: 400W x 1

Brigded 4 ohms: 600W x 1

I am confused because wouldnt the amp only be giving out 220W RMS to the 500W RMS sub? This would mean it is very under powered?

Alpine say the MRP-650 is a better option for the sub as it is rated as -

RMS Power (at 14.4V THD+N, 20Hz-20kHz)

Per channel into 4 ohms: 400W x 1 (0.08% THD)

Per channel into 2 ohms: 600W x 1

Brigded 4 ohms: 1000W x 1

I am confused about ll this as i dont really understand about all the ratings. I am wondering why a company would sell a amp and sub as a deal that are mismatched.

If anyone could help me understand all this that would be great.

hey i think i can clear this up....alright the SWR-1242D is a DUAL 4 ohm voice coil sub. Therefore you can run it at 8 ohm or 2 ohm load.... preferably 2ohm in this case. So you need an amp that pushes an RMS of roughly 500 at a 2ohm load. That first amp ( MRP-450) would give that sub 400RMS @ 2ohm and the (MRP-650) would give it 600RMS @ 2ohms. So heres your choices. Depending on price running the sub 100 watts under the RMS is going to kill it. So go with the MRP-450. I've been running my 15" thats 750RMS at only 500RMS daily...and trust me it HITS. Best of luck to you with the deal. Oh ya and incase you dont know how. To wire the sub to a 2 ohm load. before loading in the enclosure run a wire from +VC1 to +VC2 then from +VC2 to the + of amp. Same for the negative -VC1 to -VC2 to - on the amp. This is called PARALLEL wiring. hope to be of assistance to ya.

The mrp-m450 would put out 400 watts to the type r. They sub can be wired to 2 ohms, so look at that rating. Type r's need quite a bit of power to get moving, so i would suggest looking at something more powerful.

edit- or listen to him. I dont have any experience with them, just saying from the popular consensus.
