what amp to use (NOOB)

hey guys im new here and had a question about what amp to get to power my jl 12w7(got a deal on it) i know most people would suggest the 1000/1 but i can't bring myself to fork out 700 bucks for one piece of equipment! I could get a steal on a 500/1 but i hear underpowering a sub is a huge "no no". the recommended watts rms to put to it is 750. sorry if this is a repost:crap: my main concern and objective is to get an amp that is dependable..and that POUNDS of course. thanks so much for the help! (ps-open to suggestions for different brands)

The only downside is most class D amplifiers will produce maximum power at 1 ohm and you will need a BIG class D to make 750 watts RMS @ 3 ohms. Something like the AudioQue 2200 or Sundown 2000 would probably work, unless you can come across an older 1,000 watt Kicker or Rockford Fosgate amplifier that made maximum power at 2 ohms.

i heard the alpine pdx gets pretty hot, but it seems to work for you? if its 1000 at 2 ohms at 3 it would be around the 700 mark right?

never really got "hot". warm never hot though. also asfar as the 3 ohm situation I dont know how much it would put out. if it does 1000 at 4ohm i dont see why it would do less on less ohms.

Too bad Crutchfield ran out of those Clarion DPX11551 amplifiers because that would have worked perfectly for the OP's subwoofer at 3 ohms. IIRC, they blew em out at $200 shipped because the line was discontinued.
