No **** sherlock, although I would clarify that the gap is the "magnetic" gap since something like xbl^2 extends the uniform(ish) magnetic field a bit. How does a w7 suffer from more power compression than other woofers, is their cooling that bad!?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif A soft spider isn't a bad thing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif TC sounds drivers sounded great using soft spiders and to this day are considered very solid performers. Although the current offerings seem to be riddled with QC problems, but US made TC //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif Not everyone wants to throw several kilowatts to get a sub moving.the bl curve only represents the windings in the gap over stroke. it doesn't account for power compression. one reason JL uses such a soft spider. so you don't get any electrical parameter shifts with rated Xmas and power. it's a great sealed box woofer but that's it..the sundown x or z4 despite they don't recommend the sealed will do great in 1.5 sealed for the 12.
I frankly don't see how you can say the w7 is a flawed driver just because the design decision that went into it don't line up with your idea of what a woofer should be.
OP Are you stuck on buying new?
