In my opinion, 1.5 cubes ported is fairly average. In my mind 1.2 or less is a small box 10.What’s a small box in net cubic feet?

Also want to add that I have tried a couple type R’s in the past and have had the surround separate from the cone. Not sure if it was just bad subs but what are the chances? The Alpine Type R call for between .6 and 1.1 ported. Just sayin. I understand if you don't like them.
Nothing wrong with alpine subs. I like them. They’re a little more pricey now than when I ran them, but I metered one of their single 12s at 144.6 on 700 watts back when I was competing. The Alpine Type R call for between .6 and 1.1 ported. Just sayin. I understand if you don't like them.

Now I would argue with you a little there. W6 was one of my favorite subs of all time. Not quite as loud but I loved the sound of my 12w6. Depends on the objective I suppose. W6 is not a sub that will win many competitions though.I liked the Type R better than a W6 that I had.

Really. I may have to check those out for sure. I absolutely love to run 8s and make them loud. It just satisfying for an underdog to rip off big numbers.I think the W6 that I had was wore out. The type R was barely used. My favorite subs these days are Deaf Bonce, but I only have room for 8's. Just to let everybody know, Deaf Bonce is coming out with a couple of 8" subs. I think in the 800-1,000 watt rms range.
