Well, looks like I'm getting a new, free laptop

THE WHOLE THING!!!
So here's the story:

I bought a laptop from the Dell outlet back in october. Right out of the box it gives me the blue screen of death. I mean literally as I turn it on for the first time. But this isn't any ordinary blue screen, it's all scrambled so I can't even read WTF it says.

Well, I deal with the random blue screen crashes for a while because I needed it for testing purposes and for finals. One day it'll crash 10 times, then it'll be fine for a week.

So I finally got ahold of dell in about mid november and tell them my problem. They send a box for me to send it in for repairs.

After a VERY quick turnaround (3 days including shipping there and back), i get the report that they replaced the motherboard.

I say yay and turn it on. Works fine for a few hours, then BAM, scrambled blue screeen again.

So I get ahold of dell again and they have me try a few things to see if anything works. I go through diagnostics reports and everything comes back clean. Pretty shitty huh?

Over the past couple days I've been talking with the same guy over the phone and I have recently updated the BIOS and yesterday I reinstalled windows. All is good for about 5 hours until it crashes again. So today I go through and install any new drivers for the graphics card and whatnot, and right when I finish that, scrambled blue screen

The same guy is going to call back on saturday and told me that if this stuff didn't fix the problem that they will send me a new laptop. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif I'm kind of looking forward to that now and hopefully I can actually pick out this new one since they don't have this model any more.

Clifs: laptop ****s up right out of the box, nothing fixes it, Dell sending me a new laptop.

Yeah Dell is good with doing that, at where I work we have 100+ laptops from dell and when ever we have a problem they will come right out and fix it, and if they can't they will send a new laptop, fairly quickly too.

Dell is definitely good in my book.

Dells customer service used to be greatness, at least the xps one was. It was out of texas. Now they are all in india...
You dam right -- and now they ****, big time. The last time I spoke to them I asked if they could please transfer to me to someone closer to home -- Mexico perhaps.

I cant understand them half the time.. check minus from me for sure. There tech here is an idiot too. Got him fired for his ignorance. I had next day at home service. I setup appt and he skips it saying hes sick. I see him that night at a concert , so i called dell and got his *** fired for skipping out on me.

also the 2nd tech they sent out here screwed up one of my trim pieces, so i called dell and they sent me one that said inspiron, so i complained ( i have an xps ) told them if they were sending me an inspiron plate to send me the difference in my xps to inspiron in $$$ lol

Actually, one time I got a guy who was in oklahoma, so it's not all too bad. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hah, looks like Dell is going to add another computer to its refurbished inventory. Someone is going to save 10 to 15%.
Actually, a comparable new version of my laptop would run about $700-800. I paid $400. Now I know why. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Either way though, I'm hoping that I can get one of the NEW versions rather than another refurbed model. But in reality, i don't really care as long as it works fine.

Dell's customer service has been FTW for the most part, though I did get one guy that wouldn't listen to what I was saying and just kept saying the same thing over and over.

Here's one of the conversations:

Me: "It gives me the blue screen, but I can't read the error code"

Him: "ok, next time it does that, try to read what the error code is"

Me: "No, you don't understand, I CAN'T read what it says, it's all scrambled"

Him: "Well, ok. When it does this again, call us back with the error code"

Me: "HOW THE HELL AM I GOING TO GIVE YOU A CODE WHEN I CAN'T READ IT?!?!"

Him: "Ok, well give us a call back when you receive an error"

Me: *click*

That was the only bad experience I had though. The rest of the guys were all pretty helpful.

Nice...I've had my Inspiron 1420 for a few days now and I love it...

What lappy are you going to get? Do you get to spec it out or are they just going to give you something that was similar to your current one?

you sure they dont want the old one? i'm confused... how is it free if you paid for the first one??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif:confused:

Honestly, I have no idea how this is going to work. Apparently they are going to send me a new laptop and I'm going to send the old one back after I'm satisfied that the new one is functioning properly.

I guess I'll find out how this is all going to work on saturday. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That would be sweet if I can spec it out and get a better one than what I have now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif All I'd really change is getting more RAM though. I actually somewhat like vista. I thin k it looks better than XP, just takes some getting used to.

They want the old one back, but I'm getting a new version for free. A new version of mine is going to cost double what I paid for this one.

I believe that you are thinking too much into this. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do you want to sell your old one? Or have a heart and give it to the needy? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Apparently they want the old one back after I receive the new one. Otherwise yes, I would be selling it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
