well it looks like ED is copying kicker now

You gotta be fucking kidding me.. this thread is FULL of ignorance..

I've heard many nice sounding Solo X installs before, got lower than balls, 50's in 30-39hz range (in one install)..

& lol @ "square & sq don't go together", you guys are retarded. learn to install.

Well, again, the square design lends itself to one thing and one thing only... more cone area for added output. But, with it comes a price, in the form of heavier cone with 'strengthening' ribs to keep the cone's shape under stress, lack of extreme excursion thanks to the corners limiting surround roll potential, etc. Can you still make them sound good? Yes. But again, the square shape is not a recipe for a SQ driver.

Could I make one sound good? Hell yes. Would I rather start out with a different sub given the choice (for SQ)? Hell yes.

By design a square speaker will never sound as good as a circular one.
Ever hear a Magneplanar? Or Martin Logan? Or Quad ESL?

I bet where you are there's a few dealers around...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Alright fine, you got me there... Although they are usually rectangles not squares //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

well we could change them to all 100% kevlar cones.....nah....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Plus, the way the T-cut top plate, the numbers of actualy Xmech is, well, short compared to what it actually does. But then again, all SPL woofers don't need to have huge Xmax, to get loud.

While not the recipe, hard to argue with success on what 'can' be done with them in Q.

back to the post:

Agree, you CAN NOT patent a shape, what makes them work, can, and is. Others make sqaure subs, but if they use the ribbed corners, is where it falls into a legal issue.

Tracy,

Man, I guess the legal department is staying busy. One more letter to send out this week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

technically, a square is a rectangle with 4 equal sides. so everyone in this thread is wrong, they are rectangular.

bunch of idiots you all are. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
