well i need a new battery.......

the average battery lasts 6 years....er it should anyhow, but then there's us people who put high power stereo systems in cars....that cuts most normal batteries life spans in half, sometimes only letting them last 1-2 years before replacement, get a yellow top, and you'll be fine for 6-7 years.

How do red tops compare to the yellow tops? From what ive heard, it sounds like the yellow is more for people playing with the car off and the red will do fine for normal situations. Is this right?

eh, correct me if i'm wrong, but normally red tops are used when they are the second battery in the system, yellow tops usually are used as a main battery and a second though, idk of too many people that use a red top.

**** alright. How would i check my battery. Ull probably give it a jump and let it run for a bit. Then ill check the voltage. How do I do that though? Thanks
go rent...buy...get one somehow, a battery charger, charge the battery you have right now for however long the charger you get recomends, they all have different settings, make sure its a little longer than 2 hours...lol, as its not like a AA battery, little bit bigger. and then take it to a shop to have it tested, believe me, shops that test batteries do NOT like having to charge them before testing them....

Well i have a dmm, and i most likely can borrow a charger. Would i put the red to the positive terminal and the black to the negative? Or the black to the ground spot? Just dont want to smoke my dmm.

yes never take a dmm or anything for that matter right accross the top of the battery, there are gases that exsist that can blow up with a spark in the wrong spot, put the positive to the positive post, and the negative to the nearest piece of large metal....
