weird sound???

ok..heres the deal. i am currently using a Rockford HX2 12" in a 2.8 cu. ft. box tuned to 35 htz. the thing is that all i hear is a sound like the sub is bottoming out from the port...but when i cover the port, the sound is gone and the sub dont sound like its distorting or nothing..sounds fine
