Wearing in subs.

Okay, so I bought a new Pioneer sub. I've heard that before you listen to the sub very loudly it is needed to be "worn in". The way you "wear in" subs is by slowly turning up the volume until it gets really loud. Is this true? and if so; how slowly should I turn the volume up?

as for the OP's question I dont know the correct answer, but from what I have read some believe what you typed to be true and others say no.

I personaly just installed a brand new sub and I didnt do any wearing in of it ad it continues to play well ad sounds better every day.

What you should do, in my opinion is run the sub on lower power for a week or two to get it all loosened up, then go ahead and let it wang.

I just put an ID Max in my car and the instructions say that you should'nt excede half gain for a week.If I were you Id just break it in easy.

What if you have a 5kilowatt amp... just feed it 2500rms should be fine? lol.

I don't know about this whole breaking in thing. Some think it's useless and others swear by it. I've never "broken in" a sub and haven't had any problems.

My buddy seriously broke in his sub in by hooking it up to the eletrical outlet (DD 9918 FTW)

Some live by breaking them in and some disagree its all up to the owner i think.

Physically, there is always a break in time with any new equipment. Anything.

Whether or not you need to go easy on the break in is entirely preference.

I have a pair of sennheiser HD-595 headphones, and they definitely sounded better after break in, however those are audiophile headphones, and are 1/4" from your ear playing midbass/midrange/highs.

just installed my new idq 10" and turned it up to full capability today. Ummm...... it still works. I guess we will wait and see if i tore it up. haha I have never broken in a sub and never had any problems either.

just go easy for a week and then set your gains with a dmm and give er power make it wang!!

when i bought my sub i was unaware of this breaking in period( as its called) and nither did my installation shop guy, i just played full volume as i really wanted to test it out and make sure my money is well spend. my advice, its up to you, if it breaks you can get it replaced anyway!

There is no reason to go easy on the sub early on. The break in is over when the sub reaches its final design values for suspension compliance. It will behave as designed at this point. The easier you go on it the longer it will take for the sub to reach its final state.
